Ponderings from the Volunteer Coordinator

The sun is out and all is good with the world. Summer is moving along at a pretty good clip with Solstice here in just a few days.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. Whether your traveling off island or staying put, with our internet stream you can tune in to KMXT either way.

Volunteers, keep in touch. There is alot of transition in the summer, meaning lots of shifts available. Give me a call and I will get you scheduled.

As always let us here at KMXT know what you think about what your hearing. Local or National shows, we want your opinion. There is an online survey on the KMXT website at kmxt.org or you can leave comments here on the blog. You can also leave comments on the website. Talk to us!

OK I guess that's it for now, have a great summer!

Just so nobody freaks out, there isn't yet any lettering on the front of the KMXT studios. I was just fiddlin' around with a picture....

But it could be a reality....

I later thought what would be better would be:
Public Radio
KMXT 100.1 FM

Then what to build a sign out of? Brushed aluminum? Stainless steel? Core-10? Wood? Plastic?

Anybody have any ideas what it should say, what it should be made of and, most importantly, how we can fund it?

Build it from the blood, sweat and tears of KMXT volunteers and staff!

I'm thinking salvaged pallets and silver spray paint. The afore-mentioned volunteers could do wonders with that- we are Kodiakans, after all...

'Allo Lori,

Traveling the Gulf of Alaska via the M/V Tustumena and really enjoy being connected to KMXT Live. It's 0100 and the Brazilian Hour is sizzlin' ;-)

Mucho thanks to the Alaska Marine Highway System which responded: "We only have one ferry with Internet, it's the Tustumena. Internet is not available on any other ferry we have." (Hey Jay, maybe there's a news story here?)

On the waveforms,

Jay,

I'd like to see recycled electronic parts that "Crusty Joe" might have squirreled away. Maybe a small contract with the Wire Lady (aka Jane Van Atta) would give direction to the volunteer work party. We would need to coat the piece(s) to ward off the marine environs.

Wired for sound,

Those are some good ideas.... I really like the left over electronic parts one.... Maybe combine it with silver-painted pallet wood.

The Internet access on the Tusty is great, and we had a story about it when it came out of refit just over a year ago. Way cool deal -- it also allows cell phone coverage.
