KMXT Volunteer of the Year 2008

Thank you to the Second Floor Restaurant and Mrs. Kim for another wonderful meal at the KPBC Annual meeting! The membership turnout was great, despite the sunshine. Welcome to new Board members Roberta Austring and Ron Sears.
The Volunteer of the Year for 2008 is Erin Harrington. Erin is a long time on-air volunteer, past Board member and spearheaded our newest Annual Fundraising event last year, The Run the Rock Marathon. The second Annual event will take place on October 4th. Thank you Erin, last year this event was KMXT's most profitable, single day event yet. Here is to another great year. Volunteer Update

As those of you who have done air shifts this week know, the DIGI is gone. Yup, gone, dead, caput! So we are beginning the transition to ENCO. Everyone is doing great with the new system and I want to thank all of you for being patient with it all. Stop by to find out about the changes if you haven't worked with it yet.

Congratulations to our own Wes Hannah on his recent wedding. All of us here, at KMXT wish Wes and Elizabeth the best. Unfortunately for us they will be leaving the island. Also leaving Josie Cooper, Laura Ranney have graduated from High School and are off to new adventures.

You have been hearing a couple familier voices on the air over the last week or so. James Brooks on leave from the service and Imy Dooley home from college for the summer have been filling in.

New volunteers on the air include Jeanette Blalock, Dan Raymond, Kelly Henderson and Andrew Brown.

As always there are shifts to be filled. I would love to hear from all of you to find out how your summer has been going and what shifts you want to sign up for now that fall is approaching.

The Rodeo and State Fair Booth has shifts available Noon to 2, 2 to 4 and 4 to 6 Saturday August 30th and Sunday August 31st. There is a sign up sheet is on the front counter at the station.

The third Saturday of September is the traditional date for the Kodiak Public Broadcasting Corporation Annual Meeting which will be September 20th this year. Held at the Second Floor this is our yearly event to inform members about the past year and on going projects for KMXT . New Board members are also elected to fill any vacating seats.

The weekend of October 4 is going to be a great one for KMXT!

Are you a Runner? KMXT could use your help with the 2nd Annual "Run The Rock" Race

HELLO FELLOW RUNNERS AND SUPPORTERS OF RUNNING EVENTS! KMXT could use your help with organizing THE UPCOMING "RUN THE ROCK" Marathon

A note from KPBC Board Member Laura Creighton

After the surprising turnout and success of the Run the Rock Marathon last year, the members of the KMXT board are excited to get going on organizing this year's event. Unfortunately, many of the key players are not available this year, so we are putting out a call for assistance. We'd like insight on things that were successful and unsuccessful last year, as well as people with expertise and/or willingness in all aspects of race planning and race day support, including areas like timing, race marking, registration, road support and water stations.

On Wednesday, July 23, at 6:00, any and all interested people can join us at the radio station for a burger and hotdog grill-up and an organizaional meeting. The Run the Rock Marathon II is set for Oct. 4. Please contact me with any questions, 487-9798, or call the radio station 486-3181.

Fund Drive and Crab Festival Behind Us

Thank you to all who helped make our Fund Drive a success. We appreciate the continuing support of our renewing members and welcome those who are new!

Today was the last day of the 2008 Crab Festival, the 50th Anniversary of the event! What a wonderful weekend, thank you to everyone who helped out with the booth and food. We couldn't do it without you.

Now on to summer, vacation for the kids and better weather for us all. If Crab Fest was any indication anyway.

Volunteer hosts please contact me if you are going to be away this summer and take a look at the On- Air schedule to see what shifts you would like to fill. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for all you do. Enjoy the sunshine! Lori
